Small wonders conquer Mahanadi delta.

Yesterday was a very hectic day, late meals, late night sleep, so today morning when I woke up at 6am, I felt that there should have been more than 24hours in a day, so that I could sleep for some more time. My eyes were red, engulfed by slumber when I walked to the parking lot, but then the dazzling morning sun and the charming people and their smiles, made my morning beautiful and we were all ready for the Nano SuperDrive Day 3.

At around 8:30am, the Flag-off happened from The Tata Dealer ACE Autocar, situated on the NH-5. The establishment looked stunning, with the reflection of the sun on its glass façade. We then headed towards Sarala Bhavan, where today’s event was suppose to occur. The sunlight made the tar roads shine like black pearl; I was observing the morning beauty.  It was only few minutes’ drive to our destination. Last minute work was going on at Sarala Bhavan; people were trying their best to complete the arrangements for the event, there was a lot of hustle around. In between that I took out my camera, trying to capture few things into the frame. Time just flew, in between I opened my laptop, updated my facebook status, chatted with a few friends online and it was already lunch time. Today’s menu was great, I had lunch in the “babumoshai” style aka proper bong style, it was heaven, am still salivating thinking about it.

It was already 3pm, people started coming in the venue. There were toddlers to really old people, meeting new faces, watching children play, people participating in events, chatting with folks, capturing and clicking some exciting moments, just added to the aura of the carnival. There was a lot of pomp and show around, making the evening more colorful. It was almost 4pm, time for the rally.

The dealers had called all the Nano owners of Cuttack. There were about 30 Nano cars of vivid colour all set for the procession. It was the splendid view. All the cars were decorated to its best. But there was one Nano, just standing out in the crowd, which was owned by a 25 years old young Man called Dipu, it was his first buy ever, and he took pride in it. He had decorated his car with all the available flowers in the city, and made sure that it shouldn’t look less beautiful than any newlywed bride. It was an almost 120 minutes rally across Cuttack; we went all around the city, on all the possible roads.30 Nano cars going in a queue, it just made the Mahanadi delta look like a city of “small wonders”. People on the streets couldn’t just rotate their heads to spot something else, coz this sight was indeed picturesque. After the 2 hours rally, we were back to Sarala Bhavan!

It was another long day, but it was fun to talk to different people, listen to their Nano stories, why somebody prefer Nano over any other car, what makes them proud to own their “khushiyon ki chaabi”.  Tata Nano Superdrive 2 reveals the people’s view of the Tata Nano as an affordable safe car, which was truly evident from the conversations I had.

I now feel that I am truly exploring my motherland, coz my fellow countrymen are showing rather narrating me the story of real India. And today in the midst of nowhere, in the swarm I found an old friend after 6 years, and then I really felt that I should thank Nano superdrive for this precious moment, I was over-whelmed.

Already past midnight, tomorrow we have to cover 320 kms on road. It’s going to be our first long drive in this superdrive2. The ‘Superdrive’ branded Tata Nano’s will be absolute traffic-stoppers as they visit different locations in the city.  The Nano Superdrive 2 will now proceed to the next destination, Rourkela to spread happiness. Am looking forward to explore the steel city and whatever comes on our way. Am sure it going to be a lot more fun there too. So now I need snore, coz tomorrow early morning I have to fasten my seat-belt and get ready for more thrill, excitement and new discoveries and a lot more of Nano stories.

The journey thus continues; see you tomorrow at the steel city. Stay Tuned…!!!

The Colours of Bhubaneshwar

Morning shows the day.

An event full day, filled with fun, excitement and rich occurrence.

Flag-offs at three different locations by three different people, Rally throughout the City, cool events and people gathering and sharing their Nano experience with each other made this day significant.

One thing I realized that is, Nano really has a unique magnetism. Does not matter what car one is already driving or from which socio-economic background one comes from; if a Nano shows off around, one would surely turn his head to have a glimpse.

All passionate Nano fans, from varied age group made the rally a crazy one. Around 30 Nano of various colors, when travelled across the capital, made Bhubaneswar look like a multihued city.

Every time I spoke to a Nano owner a new story unfolds, and each story is just so unusual from the other. It feels that one has lived in all the stories. It’s so mesmerizing; though we have spent only a day there I am sure that it just doesn’t end here, the journey still continues.

We now move ahead to explore the Mahanadi delta of Cuttack, to hear more of the “small wonder stories”, travel around to see what makes Nano, a real wonder car.

The journey in pictures:
Wada, samosha and Ghugni: Orrisa Chat.

After a tiring rally when one can cool oneself with a splash of water….then why not a splash on this acquaintance, which is helping one to travel around.

Dreaming high…
If you’re doing something new you’ve got to have a vision. You’ve got to have a perspective. You’ve got to have some magic wonder you’re aiming for, and you just believe somehow you’ll get that, which kinda gets to the passion point.
The sparkle in the eyes was ignorable. The expression of the bright face was prominent.

BIG FM Bites.

6 & 7. Nano Show Down at Bharat Motors, Bhubaneswar.

Second Day of Living the Dream: Super Drive 2

Mornings are a great time for work, since they tend to be calm and uninterrupted. I opened my laptop and signed in to ymail and bang! The day starts. The second day of the Nano Super Drive2. I realized that waking up early allows you to actually munch on yummy breakfast.

As we checked out from the hotel and come to the parking, to load our luggage on the pilot car we instantly felt one thing… the scorching summer heat. It was only 8.30 in the morning, but the temperature was soaring up the mercury scale, making us sweat like animals.

We started from Bhubaneswar with flag off from Mr. Debasis Nair, GM operation of Swapna motors and Mr. Sandeep Bhattacharya, Nano ASM. They wished us luck and safe journey!

The customized Nanos were on road, wheels were rolling towards Cuttack and as usual the heat becoming intense. Thanks to the powerful ac inside the car, enough to battle against the heat outside, I felt that Mr. Ratan Tata has instructed his Nano team well; or rather visualized the future so well while designing and developing the Nano to make it a true small wonder. I being a transportation designer felt the importance of the minute design brief like never before.

We were approaching towards Cuttack on a beautiful Highway. Listing to the music and revised today’s plan in mind. Meanwhile you have to be alert also, you just can’t doze off or enjoy the beauty outside, you need to keep an ear open for your phone, coz your dear phone might ring anytime for its Gunjan on the other side calling, enquiring about the write ups, photographs and blog feedback.

A nice 1 hr. journey on the NH 5, till we reached the Tata dealer Ace Autocar. It’s quite a new establishment. Huge building covered with anti-reflective glass beside NH 5, made it outstanding when compared to the other architectural buildings in its radius. Any glass façade makes the building features fine-looking, and this too wasn’t any exception.

We stopped there for a primary discussion for tomorrow’s activity. We talked over the route maps, the general agenda in Cuttack, how to make this event more successful etc. etc. They are planning to invite the famous Orriya actress Devjani also in the event which will indeed boost the energy among the people present in the carnival.

We spoke to Mr. Sujeet Chakroborty the General Manager of Ace Autocar.

A funny thing happened there. Initially he was conversing in English so obviously we were responding in English only. Then he started conversing in Hindi, but when we replied back in Hindi he started talking in Bengali so we also came to Bengali, but then he again started talking in English. It was like as if we were participating in a language marathon, different phonetics kept echoing in our ears for a long time.

Thank god he didn’t start in Oriya. Else we had to behave like Eliza of “my fair lady”, trying to grasp phonetics.

On 18th the activity is happening at Sarala Bhavan in Cuttack. It’s an indoor auditorium with ample space for the day & evening activity. A temporary set up is being build there. Raja gave a quick check whether things were heading in the right direction and again briefing them as to what is to be done and what to be set up where. In the mean while I was trying to capture something interesting in my sweaty t-shirts.

At last we reached the Hotel…. Oh how could I forget the lizard story? As I told you, we were tired, hungry like a dog, burnt like sepia, waiting to check in. Raja even managed to get a four bedded room. Clive entered the room just to see and come out like a space rocket. He had seen some scary alien in the room. And guess, which alien was it…. A lizard on the wall. As it will engulf him then and there. So he denied staying in the room. That room was bliss in disguise, we tried to convince him but our efforts went futile. So the hunt began, we were on the roads again looking for a hotel. Anyway at last we did get a room in a hotel, and trust me, it was bliss. We then finally settled down and when we finished our lunch, it was dusk already. Now my head is aching badly. It could blast any time. So for the safety of my laptop screen let me stop here.

See you tomorrow with new stories and new excitements. Stay tuned…!!!
